James “Jim” Dawley, age 67, of Boscobel, WI, formerly of Bluffton, IA, died on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Boscobel Hospital in Boscobel, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Matt Larson presiding. Burial will be in the Bluffton Community Cemetery, Bluffton, Iowa.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday and on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 a.m., at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, in Decorah, IA.

The family suggests memorials may be given to the Bluffton Community Cemetery Fund, 2327 - 365th Street, Decorah, IA 52101.

James Robert “Jimmy” Dawley was born on March 15, 1946, the son of Roscoe and Ellen (Gabrielson) Dawley in Canoe Township, rural Decorah, Iowa. Jimmy attended country school near Bluffton and graduated from Decorah High School in 1966. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, Illinois. He was married to Connie Kilkelly in 1969, and they were the parents of Kay and Bobby; they later divorced. He was drafted into the US Army, serving two years in Vietnam, from 1969-71. He returned from the service and worked for Chrysler again for thirty one years until he retired. Jimmy married Gloria Degenhardt in 1988. Jimmy enjoyed working on garden tractors, lawn mowers and all kinds of motors. He also liked to tinker with miniature caterpillars, four-wheelers and collecting John Deere toy tractors and guns. Jimmy was also proud of his WD 45 Allis Chalmers that he just recently restored. He enjoyed country music, having weanie roasts and bonfires, shooting off his homemade potato cannon, working in his garage and drinking beer. Above all, Jimmy loved spending time with his family and especially his two grandchildren, Jacob and Kynley.

Jim is survived by his two children: Kay Kelly Dawley, Charlotte, NC and Robert James Dawley, Boscobel, WI. Two grandchildren: Jacob Steven Dawley and Kynley Elaine Dawley. His mother: Ellen Dawley, Bluffton, IA. Eleven siblings: Ruth Brownfield, Colorado Springs, CO; Martha Dawley, Cresco, IA; Mary (Jim) Gridley, Rockford, IL; Ronald (Beverly) Dawley, Belvidere, IL; Rebecca (Steven) Newman, Waterloo, IA; Mark (Edith) Dawley, Bluffton, IA; Steven (Julie) Dawley, Ridgeway, IA; Danny (Jill) Dawley, Burr Oak, IA; Jeff (Gwen) Dawley, Bluffton, IA; Michael Dawley, Bluffton, IA; and John (Arla) Dawley, Ridgeway, IA, along with fourteen nieces and nineteen nephews. One aunt: Vyra Masters, Albert Lea, MN.

Jim was preceded in death by his father: Roscoe Dawley in 2003. His brother: Lester in infancy. Wife: Gloria Dawley in 2005. Maternal Grandparents: Gilbert and Louise Gabrielson. Paternal Grandparents: Charlie and Cordelia Dawley.
