MRS. OLE ELLIS PASSES AWAY AT HER HOME HERE

Mrs. Ole Ellis passed away Friday morning, June 12, 1931, at 6:45 o'clock at her home here. Mrs. Ellis had not been well the past year and for nine weeks before her death she was confined to her bed. Death followed a stroke which she suffered a few days before. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the F.N.E.L. church, of which the deceased was a member, and interment was made in Big Canoe cemetery. Rev. T.A.Hoff officiated at the services. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Sam Ellis of LaCrosse, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Loberg and Louise Harveson of Emmons, Minnesota. Two daughters, Mrs. Kjenstad of Brandt, S.D. and Mrs. Olai Valle of Watertown, S.D. were not here for the funeral as they recently returned to their homes after a visit here.

Julia Iversdatter Hagen was born in Wisconsin Feb. 23, 1853, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Iver T. Hagen. She came to Winneshiek county with her parents when she was two years old and received her education here. On May 31, 1876, in Pleasant township, she was united in marriage with Ole S. Ellis by Rev. Stub. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 31, 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis lived on a farm in Pleasant township until fifteen years ago when they moved to Decorah. Six children were born to this union, all of whom, with the bereaved husband, survive. They are Sam of LaCrosse, Wis., Tilla (Mrs. Olai Valle) of Watertown, S.D., Ida (Mrs. Oscar Kjenstad) of Brandt, S.D., Julia (Mrs. Julia Bloomfield) of Decorah, Clara (Mrs. Harry Erickson) of Decorah, route 7, and Elvin, who resides at home. She is also survived by three brothers, Ole Iverson, John Hagen and Tosten Iverson, all of Decorah. Hosts of friends join us in extending sympathy to those left to mourn the death of Mrs. Ellis.
