Andrew Knapstad Dies; Funeral To Be Held Thursday

Pioneer of Glenwood Township Dies At Aase Haugen Home On Monday

Andrew Knapstad, 86 year old pioneer of Glenwood township, died at the Aase Haugen home Monday at 8 p.m. after an illness of six months. His funeral will be held Thursday (tomorrow) from the Ness funeral home at 2 p.m. The Rev. Otto Schmidt will officiate.

Andrew Knapstad was born in Norway, Feb. 22, 1849, coming to the United States at an early age. He settled in Glenwood township where he farmed for about 35 years He was married to Miss Anna Langdahl and eight children were born to this union. Six of the children survive: Mrs. Ole Berg, Decorah township; Mrs. Ingebret Erickson, Frankville township; Andrew Knapstad, Minot, N.D.; Sam Knapstad, British Columbia; Lewis Knapstad, British Columbia; and Carl Knapstad, Seattle, Wash., John Ramsey of Decorah township, an adopted son, also survives. Mrs. Knapstad preceded her husband in death about 42 years ago.

Mr. Knapstad also farmed for 30 years near Minot, N.D. Last September he went to the Aase Haugen home to live where he lived until his death. He is well known in Glenwood township where he has many nephews and nieces.

Andrew Knapstad Died Monday at Old People's Home

Andrew Knapstad passed away Monday night at the Aase Haugen Old People's Home at the age of 86. He had been in failing health for the past two months. He had made his home at the Old People's Home since last September. Mr. Knapstad was born in Norway, and was a pioneer resident of this county.

He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Langedahl, who passed away 42 years ago.

Eight children survive. They are John and Mrs. Ole Berg of Decorah township, Mrs. Ingebret Erickson, Frankville township; Andrew, Minot, N.D.; Carl, Seattle, Wash.; Lars and Sam of British Columbia. A daughter, Mrs. Tilla Myron passed away about six years ago.

Funeral services will be held Thursday from the Ness & Ness Funeral Home at two o'clock. Rev. Otto Schmidt will officiate and interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery.
