Postville Herald, Friday, 6 December 1918.

Private O_r Bernards passed away Sept. 30 in England of pneumonia. He was married July 3rd to Miss Mabel Hill of Decorah and shortly afterward was sent to Camp Dodge. He was running the blacksmith shop when called for service.

NOTE: Mabel Emma (Hill) Bernards 9-17-1891 / 10-2-1988 is buried in Phelps cemetery grouped with several other Bernards. Her gravestone is for dual entry but the second entry space is blank. See photo of the stone on the IGPP. Her husbands body may be buried in England. The second letter of his given name was blurred in this death notice.
