Military Rites Held May 31 For Norman Severson
Military funeral services were held for Norman H. Severson at Decorah Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock May 31. Burial and military graveside services where at Phelps Cemetery.
Mr. Severson, 612 River Street, Decorah, died May 29 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 60. He was a carpenter and had lived in Decorah all of his life except for time served in the armed forces.
The Rev. Alden H. Hovda officiated at final rites for Mr. Severson. Pallbearers were Norman Berge, William R. Brown, Thomas P. Dolan, Kenneth Frye, Burt Henning and Rudy Wenthold. Mrs. Otto Ruen was organist, and hymns were sung by the congregation. Arrangements were made by Olson-Fjelstul Funeral Home.
Norman Severson was born October 8, 1914 in Decorah. He attended Decorah Community Schools and served in World War II from August 1942 to January 1946. He was stationed in France most of that time where he supervised and kept all records of a hotel requisitioned by the American Army for housing officers in the European Theatre of Operations.
He was a member of the VFW and the Decorah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Severson is survived by his mother, Nellie Severson, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Garcia of Albert Lea, Minn. and Mrs. Roy Belz of Decorah.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Severson and four brothers.
Out of town relatives who attended the services came from McFarland, Wis., Norfolk, Va., LaCrosse, Wis., Cedar Rapids, Ia., Albert Lea, Mabel and Spring Grove, Minn.
