Answering the call from Davy Jones’ Locker, Kenneth Joseph Kinkor passed away unexpectedly at his workplace on Friday June 7th, 2013 in Provincetown, MA. Ken was born to his proud parents on the 26th of January in the year 1954.

A graduate of South Winneshiek Community High School in 1972, Ken participated in many school clubs, but he enjoyed the Drama Club and acting in school plays the most. Participating in Boy’s State, his interest in politics grew. He graduated from Loras College in 1976 with majors in History and Political Science. He did post-graduate studies at Iowa and Illinois.

Having talked of grape shot, swivel canon and Captain Blackbeard most of his youth, Ken became a Piratologist/Historian. His love of maritime history and the golden age of piracy led him to leave his mid-western home and move to Massachusetts in 1986. There he joined the company of Barry Clifford who had discovered the wreck of “the Whydah”, the 1st documented sunken pirate ship off the coast of Cape Cod. He spent the rest of his days doing the work that he loved which stretched overseas as far as England and Madagascar. He made several national television appearances as an expert in his field on television programs featured on Discovery Channel, History Channel, and other networks. He was also a writer and a fisherman. He loved to cook.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Norman (1982) and Clementine (2013), his grandparents Joe & Mary Kinkor, and Victor & Clara Schmitt, and his uncles, Don and Clifford Kinkor and Florian Schmitt. He is survived by his longtime friend and wife of 17 years Marti Ward, his siblings, Ron, Roger, Karen Kay and Randy, and his nephews Michael, Christopher, Mitchell, Mackie, and Benjamin as well as numerous 1st cousins.
