Obituary Mrs. Reinhardt Hjelmeland

Mrs. Oleanne Groneng Hjelmeland, of Calmar, Iowa, passed away at the Decorah Hospital, Saturday, April 14th, 1934 after an illness of one and a half years.

Oleanne Groneng, daughter of Johan and Rakel Groneng, was born March 10, 1874, at Bergen, Norway. On November 10, 1904 at Bergen, Norway she was united in marriage to Reinhardt Hjelmeland. To this union three children were born: Robert of Waukon, Iowa; (Kitty) Mrs. Henry Flaskerud, of Calmar, Iowa; and Conrad at home, in Calmar.

Mr. and Mrs. Hjelmeland came this country from Norway in the year 1909. They made their home in Mason City,Iowa during 1909 and 1912. The balance of the years they have lived in Calmar.

Besides her husband and three children, deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Albertine Torkildsen, of Bergen, Norway.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 1934, at the Calmar Lutheran Church, Rev. H.A. Preus conducting the services. Rev. R.O. Hjelmeland, of Fertile, Iowa spoke in Norwegian. A trio composed of Mrs. H.A. Preus, Miss Mabel Bjonerud and Fred Grundeland sang a song. Fred Grundeland sang two solos, and the church choir sang "Asleep in Jesus"

The pallbearers were Henry and Emer Twedt, Carl Nystrom, Edwin Dalen, Julius Flaskerud and Elif Flaskerud.

Those from away who were present at the funeral were Rev. R.O. Hjelmeland, of Fertile, Iowa; H Woldum, Mr. and Mrs. John Doerr, Amelia Espeseth, of Decorah.
