David W. Baldwin was born in Frankville township, Winneshiek Co., Iowa, October 28, 1855. His parents, George and Eleanor Baldwin, came from Vermont and Canada in 1852. David W. was the sixth of a family of ten children.
In his boyhood he received a good common school education and also studied at Upper Iowa University.
The greater part of his life was spent in this community as farmer and business man. For a number of years he served his township as tax collector and as trustee.
He died at the Allamakee County Home, May 30th, 1929, at the age of 73 years, six months and 29 days.
He is survived by one sister, Mary, who is Mrs. J.W. Whitson of St. Thomas, N.D.
Mr. Baldwin, while not a member, was a supporter of the Methodist church. He was always deeply interested in all phases of public life and sought to advance the material, political, intellectual and moral growth of his community.
Undertaker Louis Schutte brought the body of Mr. Baldwin to Postville the evening of Memorial Day and prepared it for burial, and on Sunday afternoon last, following a short service at the funeral home in this city, the remains were conveyed to Centennial church near Castalia, where funeral services were held, Rev. R.F. Galloway of this city officiating. Interment was made in the family plot in Centennial cemetery.
Mr. Baldwin was a Postville resident for a number of years and was known to us all as an honest and upright citizen in every way, and all who knew this kindly gentleman will grieve to learn of his passing.
