Postville Review, Fri., 5 Nov. 1915.
Harry Melvin Smorstad was born April 1, 1887, in Frankville township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, and died at the home of his father, near Castalia, Oct. 27, 1915, aged 28 years, 6 months and 26 days, leakage of the heart being the cause of death. His short life was spent in Iowa, except two years in Oregon and about three years in South Dakota. He was never very strong, and about two years ago his health failed him entirely. He was of a sunny disposition and although he suffered almost constantly he was ever patient, thoughtful and kind. He leaves to mourn his loss a father, (his mother preceding him in death Nov. 25, 1901.), two brothers - Joseph of Frankville township and Fred of Beach, N.D. - a step-mother, five step-sisters, and a step-brother. The funeral was held from the U. B. church, Castalia, Iowa, Oct. 30, 1915, conducted by Rev. Hursh. He was laid to rest in Pleasant View cemetery, and was carried to his grave by his cousins - Fred, Elmer, John, Albert, Carl and Otto Smorstad.
