Mrs. Andrew Horn

Mrs. Andrew Horn died suddenly at the home of her son Clarence Huber, seven miles southwest of Cresco at 3:20 o’clock Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 1935.

Mrs. Horn was born at Spillville, March 1, 1871. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maravetz, pioneer residents of Winneshiek county. She attended the parochial school at Spillville and in 1888 was married to Wm. J. Huber. Mr. Huber died Oct. 13, 1901.

She was united in marriage with Andrew Horn, March 21, 1907. She lived most of her life in Howard county.

Mrs. Horn was a woman of kind and loving disposition and her death brings deep sorrow to her family and the community in which she lived. Her deepest interests were her family, church and charities. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic faith and attended Holy Cross church in Schley. She died fortified by the last rites of her religion. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League of the Schley parish.

She is survived by Mr. Horn and her eight children: Mrs. Leone Tuchek of Cresco; Arthur F. Huber, Clarence B. Huber, Richard C. Horn, Carl A. Horn, Raymond L. Horn, all of Cresco; Sylvester J. Horn of Le Mars; Julius U. Huber of Cresco. One son, Edward and one daughter Mrs. Wilma Billmyer preceded her in death.

She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Rose Soukup of Spillville and three brothers: Frank, Albert and Louis M., all of Kalispel, Mont. There are a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Holy Cross church. The Rev. Father Skluzacek, assistant pastor of Holy Trinity church of Protivin, offered up a High Mass of Requiem at nine o’clock. He also delivered the sermon and said the prayers at the graveside in the adjoining cemetery. The choir composed of Mrs. Peter Herold, Mrs. R. W. Svestka, Grace Barnes, Ruth Malek and Georgina Barnes sang the Gregorian Mass. Mrs. Ray Condon was at the organ.

Pallbearers were L. V. Svestka, Arthur Mracek, Michael Barnes, Henry Novak, James Malek and Frank Drtina.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moudry, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Moudry, Calmar; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Huber, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Huber, Austin, Minn.; L. C. Billmyer and Clarence, Le Mars; Mrs. Joseph Dvorak, Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Billmyer, Remsen; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zobel, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Mary Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Soukup, Spillville; Don Huber, Boone; Edward Huber, Cedar Rapids.
