Karl ‘Koony” Kobriger

Karl D. “Koony” Kobriger, 61, of Decorah and Harpers Ferry, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, after a 9-year battle with head and neck cancer. Karl was born Aug. 21, 1950, the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Clara (Uhlenhake) Kobriger. He grew up on the family farm east of Ossian and lived there until June of 2004, when he moved to his “dream home” on the Mississippi River. He graduated from Ossian DeSales in 1968. He worked for the Co-op in West Union for a few years before joining the Reilly family in 1979. He was a ‘”lowboy” driver for a number of years and worked in the shop as parts manager for the past 16 years. Reilly Construction was truly his family and he was blessed to work for such an incredible group of people. He also enjoyed his time as a volunteer firefighter for the Ossian Fire Department. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was working, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling or, most recently, camping and riding the trails in his Ranger.

Karl was united in marriage with Barb Johnson in Dec. of 1974 and to this union one son, Josh, was born. They were later divorced. In 2000 Karl met Patty Holck and they were married Nov. 13, 2009, on the deck of their home on the Mississipppi River in Harpers Ferry.

“Koony” is survived by his wife, Patty; his son, Josh; grandson, Kelby; and Josh’s special friend, Mandy, and her son, Dylan. Other survivors are his stepchildren Adam and Trisha Holck; his brothers Harold (Joan) Kobriger, Norman (Margie) Kobriger and Kenny (Marilyn) Kobriger; his sisters, Diane Evenson, Karen (Neil) Heckmann, Gladys (Fred) Wilker; his Reilly family and many friends and extended family. “Koony” is also survived by his special friend, his dog, Josie.

“Koony” was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Kobriger.
