Donna Nagel, age 72, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa, following a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson presiding. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, Iowa, and also after 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning at the church.

Donna Mae (Steele) Nagel was born on May 14, 1940, the daughter of Lester and Grace (Ramsey) Steele near Decorah, Iowa. Donna attended rural country school in the Glenwood area. She worked at Wapsie Produce in Decorah. Donna was united in marriage to Leo Nagel on July 19, 1959, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. She continued to work at Wapsie Produce until she stayed and home and raised her kids. Donna and her mother, Grace made wedding cakes and did wallpapering for area people. When the children were in school, she went to work for Sunflower Daycare, and then to the North Winn School and Aase Haugen Nursing Home, where she worked in the kitchen. Donna enjoyed crocheting “her potholders”, along with camping and fishing. Donna loved to bake and can produce, burn her candles and to collect mice figurines. In the last few years, Donna painted Leo’s carvings. Above all, Donna loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.

Donna is survived by her husband: Leo Nagel, Decorah, Iowa. Three children: Linda (Brian) Dinger, Decorah, IA; Tammy (Kevin) Ihde, Decorah, Iowa, and Randy (Shannon) Nagel, Burr Oak, IA. Her mother: Grace Steele, Decorah, IA. Nine grandchildren: Quentin (Dana) Holkesvik, Zachary (Valarie) Holkesvik, Zebulen (friend, Stephanie Burroughs) Holkesvik, Brittney (fiance, Travis Fox) Ihde, Tiffany Ihde, Kyle Ihde, Josh Ihde, Victoria “Tori” Nagel and Bailey Nagel. Five great grandchildren: Jackson Holkesvik, Cavan & Dillion Spry, Owen & Aviana “Rosie” Holkesvik. Two brothers: Lyle Steele, Evansdale, IA, and Ed (Rita) Steele, Winona, MN. Her mother-in-law: Eula Thies, Waukon, IA. One sister-in-law: Dorothy (Fred) Broszeit, Frankville, IA. Her special dog, Spike and special granddoggie, Oliver, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her father: Lester Steele on April 26, 1995. Her father-in-law: Ralph Nagel on Nov. 26, 1967. One sister-in-law: Helen “Shorty” Steele.
