Bill Decker, age 48, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at his home from cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main St, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, and also from 9:00-10:00 a.m., on Thursday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home.

William Jacob “Bill” Decker was born on June 18, 1964, the son of William and Marie (Weber) Decker in Decorah, Iowa. Bill was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedict Catholic Church and attended St. Benedict Catholic School, where he was a mass server. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1983. While in high school, Bill participated in the DECA Program and started working at DECO Products. Bill worked there for thirty years, Bill married Shelli Saltou on June 6, 1998 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, and they had two children: Bethany and Jacob. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and NASCAR. He also liked to play cards, games, play pool and his bowling league with his friends. Above all, Bill loved his wife and children and the valuable time he spent with them. Bill was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Bill is survived by his wife: Shelli Decker, Decorah, IA. Two children: Bethany and Jacob Decker, both at home in Decorah. His parents: William and Marie Decker, Decorah, IA. Four sisters: Debbie Decker, Decorah, IA; Connie (Mike) Pahl, Ridgeway, IA; Karen (Al) Gaul, Cresco, IA; and Sue (Jerry) Hansen, Rochester, MN. One brother: Terry (friend, Brenda Clancy) Decker, Decorah, IA. His father and mother-in-law: Jim & Dorothy Saltou, Waukon, IA. Shelli’s grandparents: Floyd & Lillian McKenna, Osage, IA. Four brothers-in-law: Scott (Michelle) Saltou, Fountain, MN; Stuert (Becky) Saltou, Center Point, IA; Steven Saltou, Sturgeon Bay, WI; and Samuel (Megan) Saltou, Waukon, IA. Bill and Shelli’s uncles and aunts: Ruth (Roger) Stark, Osage, IA; Allen (Margaret) McKenna, Riceville, IA; Glen (Bonnie) McKenna, Chester, IA; Barb (Jim) Musch, Dunkerton, IA; Darrell (Barb) Saltou, Yuba City, CA; Ray “Junior” (Pat) Saltou, Riceville, IA; LaRae (Gordon) Kleckner, Riceville, IA; Linda Brown, Saratoga, IA; Charles “Chuck” (Connie) Saltou, Cresco, IA; Betty (Mern) Swancutt, Chester, IA; Darlyne Johnson, Sauk Rapids MN; Lloyd (Bernadine) Weber, St. Cloud, MN; and James “J.R.” Weber, Spring Lake, MN, along with many niece and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents: William & Elizabeth Decker; Jacob & Josephine Weber; and Ray & Evelyn Saltou, along with several aunts and uncles.
