Eugene Barta, age 74, of Ft. Atkinson, IA, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse WI.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding.
Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Ft. Atkinson, IA with a rosary at 4:00 and scripture service at 5:00 on Tuesday.
Eugene Florian Barta was born on December 30, 1937, the son of Cyril and Mathilda (Backes) Barta on the family farm near Fort Atkinson, IA. Eugene attended St. John’s Catholic School and Fort Atkinson Public School, graduating in 1956. Eugene joined the US Army in 1957 and served until 1960. He married Joyce Kuhn on November 7, 1959, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA. Eugene worked many jobs throughout the years, followed in retirement from Winneshiek County Road Crew. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird-watching, and being outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Eugene’s survivors include his wife: Joyce Barta, Ft. Atkinson, IA. Two daughters: Debbie (Mark) Weber, Cheyenne, WY, and Teresa Barta Martin, Ft. Atkinson, IA. Three sons: Michael Barta, Madison, WI, Darin Barta, Ft. Atkinson, IA and Gregory (Rachel) Barta, Ft. Atkinson, IA. Five grandchildren: Tiffany Weber, Katie and Haley Martin, Nicholas Bernhard, Brady Barta and Coco, the beloved family pet. Three sisters: Dorothy Skretta, Johnston, IA, Bernadette (Tim) Bink, Belgium, WI and Geralynn Heidt, Humboldt, IA and sister-in-law: Shirley Barta, Sterling, IL. One brother: Robert (Ingrid) Barta, Seattle, WA.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents: Cyril and Mathilda (Backes) Barta. Two brothers: Norman Barta in 1968 and Merlin Barta in 2004. One brother-in-law: Ray Skretta in 1994. One son-in-law: Bryan Martin in 2008.
