Larry Dean Ramstad was born on November 17, 1949, the son of Syver and Nina (Skaim) Ramstad in Iowa City, Iowa. Larry attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1968. He was united in marriage to Janice Miller on June 22, 1968, at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah. Larry worked for Winneshiek County and then own and operated Larry’s Phillips 66 in Decorah. For over twenty five years, Larry operated and ran Ramstad Construction up until his death. Larry loved to fish in Canada, go hunting, and gambling. Over the years, Larry loved to collect Indian arrowheads and artifacts, Round Oak wood burning stoves, Model T’s, guns, mules and anything a mule could pull. He enjoyed cooking, making his famous scalloped corn, chili and homemade macaroni and cheese. Larry always kept busy and never liked to watch TV, but was always willing to tell an “Ole and Lena” joke. He loved to play any card game and especially loved to beat Roger Bullerman. Larry and Linda liked to travel these past few years, keeping up with Larry’s desire to keep on learning. Above all, Larry loved his children and grandchildren, of whom he was so proud of.
