Beverly Lee (Bruening) White was born October 22, 1932 in Floyd, Iowa, the daughter of Leo & Theresa (Baumler) Bruening. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1950 where she was a cheerleader. She married young and raised 5 children, then was able to return to school at Luther where she graduated in 1967 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Bev impacted the lives of countless 4th grade students at East Side Elementary in Decorah for 29 years.
Bev enjoyed writing her poetry, playing golf, bridge, all her dice and card games, and we always had to call her for the rules, as she knew every game. Her greatest joy was playing games with her adoring husband and her beloved children, daughter in law, son in laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Bev's children (her Fab 5) thought the world of their mom, and her family loved her so very much and treasured spending as much time with her as they could, whether boating on the Mississippi, traveling to Virginia Beach, going on cruises, playing golf against those Wisconsin gals, gambling ventures to Dubuque and Marquette, finding the Annual Golden Egg she hid and made up the rhyming clues at Easter, but the most cherished memories will always be playing all of her fun card and dice games where you played by the book to win!! On September 20, 1996 Bev married the love of her life, Don White, and there was not a more cherished husband. Those two lovebirds shared everything, splitting all meals, watching their favorite TV shows, traveling the world on their many cruises, going to the Elks to play Wheel of Fortune with Blair the bartender, having a drink at YOUR PLACE and playing euchre with Mary, Lorraine and Diane, bowling with her sister Loma and the gals, enjoying their Beach house on the river, going boating and both of them were longtime members of Oneota and Silvercrest Country Clubs where they enjoyed golf and socializing. Don and Bev were known fixtures in Decorah and fun followed them everywhere they went.
Bev left this world on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 surrounded by her devoted husband and family who will grieve her forever, but are so grateful for the years they shared.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Theresa Bruening, and son-in-law Leroy Ott.
