Norwin “Bud” Nesheim, age 88, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Joan A. Mau officiating. Burial will be Spring Grove Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring Grove, MN.

Visitation begins on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M., one hour before services, at the church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family.

Norwin Andrew “Bud” Nesheim was born on April 10, 1924 in Spring Grove, Minnesota, the son of Nels J. and Sarah B. (Bidne) Nesheim. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He attended school in Spring Grove and graduated from Spring Grove High School with the class of 1942. As a young man, he worked for C.C. Ike service station in Spring Grove. In his early years, he also flew airplanes out of the Spring Grove and Decorah airports. Flying was a great passion of his. He and some friends owned a plane together.

Bud served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic from 1942 to 1945 in the Philippines and Pacific Theater.

He was united in marriage to LaVelle M. Iverson on June 26, 1950 at Rushford Lutheran Church. She died in 1992.

Bud was manager of the Rushford Lumber Yard and a carpenter in Rushford for close to 40 years. He built some homes in Decorah in the Rosendahl addition. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. of Rushford, the Lions Club and the Model A Car Club. For ten years of his retirement, he spent time traveling around Iowa searching for parts on his 1929 Model A Ford. He was also very active at and a long time board member of the Iowa River Cemetery in Allamakee County. He helped design and build the entrance marker and the shelter at the cemetery. He was united in marriage to Jaerdis Olson on July 2, 1994 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife LaVelle; his sister Marion Nesheim; three step-sons: Robert Iverson, Matthew Olson and Bernie Olson; and a step daughter-in-law, Connie (Pearson) Olson.

Bud is survived by his wife Jaerdis; a step daughter-in-law, Joyce Iverson of Rushford, MN, a step-son, John Olson of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers: Roland (Kathy) Nesheim of New Brighton, MN and Donald (Ione) Nesheim of St. Peter, MN; two sisters: Lois Langland of Waukon, IA and Eleanor Takaichi of International Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
