Mila Mae Lovstuen, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, IA with Pastor Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 27 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Thursday one hour before the service at the church.

Mila Mae Lovstuen was born March 29, 1919 at home in Franklin Township in Allamakee County, IA, the daughter of George L. and Cloa (Mitchell) Kruse, Sr. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Luana, IA on April 20, 1919 and was confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Frankville, IA on March 27, 1932. She attended schools in Luana and Frankville, IA and graduated from Postville High School in 1936. She also received her teaching certificate at that time. She taught one year at Hickory Creek School near Luana, IA and one year at Highland School near Frankville, IA.

On October 31, 1939, Mila Mae was united in marriage to Milton C. Lovstuen at the Glenwood Lutheran Church Parsonage in Winneshiek Co., IA. Together they farmed on the Lovstuen family farm in Glenwood Township and later rented a farm west of Burr Oak, IA until they purchased a farm east of Burr Oak, IA in 1947 where she resided until November 1991 when she moved into an apartment in Decorah, IA. In January 2002, she moved into the Assisted Living apartment at Aase Haugen Home until March 2012. Mila Mae worked alongside her husband, Milton, on the farm, in addition to having a big garden, raising chickens and selling eggs. She was active in Burr Oak Lutheran Church with the women’s activities, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She liked to sew, knit, crochet, do crafts, play cards, bake cookies and travel on bus tours. There was always time for family, especially the grandchildren, who enjoyed their visits with their grandma and grandpa. Friends shared in fun times too.

Mila Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Milton C. Lovstuen on May 7, 1986; her parents, George L. and Cloa Kruse, Sr.; four brother-in-laws: Alert Lovstuen, Norton Lovstuen, Merlin Moe, Leo Moen; and four sister-in-laws: Donna Kruse, Luella Lovstuen, Martha Moe, Thelma Moen.

Mila Mae is survived by one daughter, Carol Steffenson of Rochester, MN, and one son, Neal (Clara Ann) Lovstuen of Decorah, IA; eight grandchildren: Arlyn (Kim) Steffenson of Madison, WI, Brian Steffenson of Rochester, MN, Christina (Michael) Besse of Elgin, MN, Jana (Lance) Evans of Marion, IA, Renee (Todd) Barkema of Monticello, IA, Russell (Jennifer) Lovstuen of Stewartville, MN, Sally (James) Hubka of Spring Valley, MN and Sarah (Carl) Christensen of Elizabethtown, KY; twenty great-grandchildren: Noah and Cole Steffenson, Marcus and Matthew Besse, Steffanie and Allyson Evans, Rachel, Adam, Madelyn, Scott Barkema, Jacob, Jeremy, Jonathan, Ella Lovstuen, Garrison, Gavin, Gretchen Hubka, Peyton, Carmen and Brady Christensen; one sister, Velva Lovstuen of Mabel, MN; one brother, George F. Kruse, Jr. of Decorah, IA; one brother-in-law, Alton (Rosemary) Lovstuen of Cedar Rapids, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family prefers memorials to Burr Oak Lutheran Church.
