Margaret ‘Marge’ Carlsten
Margaret A. “Marge” Carlsten, 86, of Moline, Ill., and formerly of Decorah, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center of Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation was 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, at Rafferty Funeral Home, with a rosary recited by the Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Sacred Heart Church or Jordan Catholic School.
Marge was born July 22, 1925, in Bluffton, the daughter of Harry and Stella Carolan Courtney. She married Mahlon Carlsten Jan. 26, 1948, in Bluffton. Marge was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Altar and Rosary Society and was the former chairperson for Sacred Heart Pastoral Care. She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 246, Moline; a member of Clara Lodge 118 Viking Club, Moline; and was a former Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband, Mahlon; daughter, Sandra K. Carlsten, Rock Island; son, Richard F. Carlsten, Peoria, Ill.; grandsons: Michael, James and Rick Carlsten; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Broghamer, Decorah; Louise Nichols, Papillion, Neb.; and Elaine (Nate) Drummon, Houston, Texas; brothers, Vincent (Delores) Courtney, Omaha, Neb. and Louis (Pat) Courtney, Ridgeway; and sisters-in-law, Loretta Carlson and Evie Andresen.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, a sister and three brothers.
