Leona Morgan

Leona Alvina (Berninghaus) Morgan, formerly of Decorah, died July 27, 2011, at the West Bend Care Center. Services were at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, where Leona was baptized and married.

She was born in West Bend, Ind., in 1917. She married Herman Sanders in 1935. The couple had three sons and lived in West Bend and Decorah. In 1973 she married Dick Morgan in Candler, N. C. Leona was very active with women’s church groups in West Bend, Candler, N. C. and at Canoe Ridge Church in Decorah. Leona will be remembered as a country girl at heart who loved to dance.

Survivors include her sons Gary (Hilma) Sanders of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and Donald (Jeannine) Sanders of Mission, Texas; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers Delbert and Gilbert Berninghaus.

Daughter-in-law Carolyn (Mrs. James Sanders) passed away July 30, 2011, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Leona was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman and Dick; a son, Dr. James Sanders; brothers Paul, Edwin and Rudolph.
