Lorraine Baumler

Lorraine E. Baumler, 80, of Decorah, formerly of Waucoma, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 218 Third St. NW, Waucoma, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waucoma. Public visitation was Monday, July 25, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, 212 East Elm Street, West Union, with a Rosary at 5 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation also is one hour before the services at the Waucoma Funeral Chapel, 215 Third Ave. N. W., Waucoma, Tuesday before the services. The Burnham – Wood and S. K. Rogers Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences may be left at www.skrogersfuneralhome.com .

Lorraine was born July 1, 1931, in New Hampton, to Andrew and Laura (Bouska) Schmitt. Lorraine was united in marriage to Cornelius “Neil” Baumler Nov. 8, 1948. To this union eight children were born. Lorraine and Neil farmed together until the time of Neil’s death May 23, 1975. Lorraine continued to live on the farm, until approximately ten years ago, when she moved into the Eastern Star Home in Decorah.

Lorraine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and of the Catholic Daughters in Waucoma. She enjoyed writing poetry and had some of her works published. Along with poetry, she liked to _____, decorate cakes, embroidery ____ but her love was to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Conrad (Jeannette) Baumler of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Don) Hyman of Fort Dodge, Bonnie (Dave) Rowland of Apple Valley, Minn.; Joyce (Dale) Dose of Amherst, Wis., Keith (Lisa) Baumler of West Union, Brian (Darlene) Baumler of Houston, Texas, and Brad (Mary Lynn) Baumler of Des Moines; one sister, Bernice Ohm of Lawler, and one brother, Andrew Schmitt of New Hampton; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cornelius “Neil” Baumler and a daughter: Debra Baumler Canfield.
