The family of Adrian Carolan invites his former friends and classmates to join them at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in rural Bluffton at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, for a graveside memorial service. Adrian, 71 formerly from Decorah, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 24, 2010, in Pinson Ala. Monsignor Hieneman will officiate for the burial of Adrian’s ashes. Military honors will be presented by VFW Post 1977. Coffee and cake will be served by the Ladies of St. Bridget in the Parish Hall following the service.

Adrian attended Bluffton No. 6, a one-room country school, through 8th grade and attended Decorah High School, graduating in 1958. He also graduated as a civil engineer from Iowa State University in 1962. Based on his ROTC participation, he then served two years as an Army Second Lieutenant while stationed near Stuttgart, Germany. This overseas experience installed a love of travel and seeking out new places and people that would serve him well for the rest of his life.

Adrian initially joined a consulting engineering firm in Dubuque, later becoming a full partner and opening a branch office in Bettendorf. In 1996 Adrian joined Schrieber Equipment Company in Birmingham, Ala. where he was a traveling technical sales representative for municipal water treatment equipment. His assignments took him all over the United States, and as company sales increased, he made numerous overseas trips. His co-workers always marveled that he seemed truly refreshed, rather than drained, after even the most hectic travel schedule. Adrian was a man who enjoyed and explored life to its fullest, and truly enjoyed exploring the world at the same time.

He is survived by his three daughters: Janet Pearson, Cyndee (Darrin) Dunsworth and Lisa Carolan; grandchildren: Emily Carolan, Robert Pearson, James Pearson, Lily Dunsworth and Mae Dunsworth; grant-granddaughter, Payton Carolan; brothers, Clair (Faye) Carolan of Fort Atkinson and Daniel (Nancy) Carolan of Decorah, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Carolan; brother, Allen “Butch” Carolan.
