Mrs. Ernest Vatthauer

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest Vatthauer, who passed away at her home here Thursday morning, were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 24, at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock. The pastor, Rev. L. J. Faris officiated and burial was in the Ridgeway cemetery.

Mrs. Vatthauer, nee Caroline Voegting, was born on Feb. 8, 1861, at Istrup, Lippe Detmold, Germany, the daughter of Simon and Louisa Voegting. She grew to young womanhood there and on Feb. 20, 1885 was united in marriage to Ernest Vatthauer at the home of her parents in Istrup.

They came to this country on April 8, 1892 and settled at Beardstown, Ill.; living there for twelve years before moving to Monona, Ia., in March 1904. They resided there until March, 1910, when they came to a farm near Ridgeway. Nineteen years ago they moved to Ridgeway and lived here since.

Mrs. Vatthauer was a member of the German Reformed church until she came to this country, when both she and her husband joined the Methodist church of which she had been a member since.

Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her departure, five sons, Fred of Plummer, Minn., Henry of Red Lake Falls, Minn., Arthur, Paul and Elmer of Ridgeway and four daughters, Augusta (Mrs. Walter Kuntz), Frieda, (Mrs. William Huhe), Emma (Mrs. Irvin Kuntz), all of Ridgeway; and Erna (Mrs. John Kastelien of Yarmouth, Ia. Two sons preceded her in death.

The evening before Mrs. Vatthauer died, the carolers sang a number of Christmas carols at her home which she enjoyed.

Mrs. Vatthauer had a kind and cheerful disposition and will be missed by a large circle of friends and relatives. Much sympathy is extended to the family in their hour of sorrow.
