Drowns in Columbia River in Washington

Wilfred Gossman, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gossman of Plymouth Rock, was drowned in the Columbia river at Wenatchee, Wash., Tuesday, August 13. He was eighteen years old.

Wilfred went to Wenatchee a year ago and has been living there with his uncle Willard Gossman and family since. He was attending a beach party with a group of young people when the tragedy occurred.

His sister Monica of Minneapolis who is the only surviving member of the family, was visiting at the P. V. Vance home in Cresco and received word of his death on Wednesday.

The body was bought to Cresco accompanied by his cousin Rosalie Gossman, arriving Sunday noon. It was taken to the Peckosh funeral home and on Monday morning funeral services were held at the Plymouth Rock Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. Stirn officiated. Burial was in the cemetery there.

Pallbearers were Clair Gossman and Francis Grebin of Preston, Minn., Paul Hanlon, Lyle Hanlon, Burtman Armstrong and Harold Ryan, all of Canton, Minn.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral from a distance were the sister Monica, and five friends from Minneapolis: Rose Smith, Sylvia Paivarinta, Evelyn Larson, Dorothy Southerton and Geraldine Dedrick; Ralph Smith, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gossman and son Dennis, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gossman and son Elmer, Janesville, Minn.
