Services held for Mary Wenthold

Funeral services for Mary Wenthold of Ossian were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian with Monsignor Cletus Hawes officiating. Interment was in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Pallbearers were: Joe Polashek, Gary Huinker, Craig Fortney, Paul Polashek, John Polashek, and Steve Huinker. Schluter Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mary, 80, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah after a long illness.

Mary Ann Wenthold was born October 1, 1922 near Ft. Atkinson, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Neuzil) Riha. She attended Winneshiek County Country Schools. Later in life she worked at the V & J Café in Postville and also worked as a housekeeper in Postville.

On August 29, 1964 she married Felix Wenthold at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed near Ossian until Felix died in 1984 and she moved to Ossian. On May 9, she moved to the Aase Haugen home in Decorah.

She enjoyed her garden and sewing. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian.

She is survived by two step sons: Donald Wenthold of Ossian and Darrell Wenthold of Decorah; four step daughters: Kathleen Kriener of Ft. Atkinson, Jean Wenthold of Davenport, Elaine Ness of Marietta, GA, and Marilyn Courtney of Decorah; nine step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one brother: Clarence of Ft. Atkinson; and four sisters: Josephine Huinker of Ossian, Angela Fortney of Chester, Helen MacMasters of Decorah, and Clara Riha of Ft. Atkinson.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Felix; her parents; two brothers: Joseph and George; and two sisters: Georgina Novak and Lillian Polashek.
