Services held for Parnell Sexton

Funeral services for Parnell Thomas Sexton of rural Mabel were held Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Plymouth Rock, Iowa. Interment was also at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Tauke officiating.

Pall bearers were James Sexton, Dean Nierling, Rodney Koliha, Dennis Juve, Joey McCabe and Gary McCabe. Honorary pall bearers were George Hauber, Marvin Houdek, Richard Koliha, Charles Kimber, Durwin Kallevang and Jerome Sexton. French and Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Parnell, 73, died Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born January 17, 1925, in Winneshiek County (rural Decorah), the son of Steven and Mary (McCormick) Sexton.

Parnell was united in marriage to Betty Lou Koliha on November 18, 1952 at St. Agnes Church in Plymouth Rock. Together they farmed with his family all his life in Winneshiek County.

He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; five children: Steven Sexton and Samuel Sexton, both of Decorah, Scott Sexton and Shiela Sexton, both of Mabel, MN, and Stella Mathieu of Lakeville, MN; and three grandchildren.

Parnell is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Robert, Donald, Raymond and Marvin.
