Services held for James Numedahl

Funeral services for James Lester Numedahl of Decorah were held Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah. Rev. Gary Krapfl officiated. Concelebrating the Mass were the Rev. Robert Hersch and Rev. Richard Kuhn.

Interment was in the church cemetery with full military rites. Pall bearers were Peter, Paul and Perry Numedahl; Daniel and Robert Leibold; Brian Crow, Gabriel and Jared Timp, James and Jon Pankow; and Jeremy Peterson. The French and Balik Funeral Home in Decorah handled the arrangements.

James, 52, died on Highway 52 near Decorah of an apparent heart attack.

He was born November 8, 1945 in Decorah, the son of Lester and Laura (Huber) Numedahl. He graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1963. James was in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict for three years.

On May 15, 1971 he married Patti Timp at St. Aloysius in Calmar. He lived in Winneshiek County all his life after serving in the Navy. He has been employed by U.P.S. for over 20 years.

James was a member of St. Benedict’s and Silver Crest.

Survivors include his wife, Patti; one son, Michael of Iowa City; one daughter, Emily at home; his mother Laura Numedahl of Ossian; two brothers, Roger of Rochester, MN, and Richard of Decorah; and two sisters, Sandra Numedahl of Denver, CO, and Susan Liebold of Ossian.

James was preceded in death by his father Lester.
