Roger Mailey, 73, services in Bluffton

Roger Mailey, age 73, died June 12, at his home in Cresco. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., June 14 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, with burial and military rites provided by the Cresco V.F.W. Post 4561 in the church cemetery. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald presided. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roger William Mailey was born in Bluffton, Winneshiek County, IA, on July 12, 1923 the son of William and Luella (Casey) Mailey. He attended the rural schools. As a boy, Roger worked as a farm hand.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in Normandy and Central Europe. He was discharged in 1946, and on September 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marks at Jacksonville, Florida. They became the parents of four children.

Roger drove truck most of his working years, later driving for Erickson Transport. He belonged to the Teamsters Union and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Steven of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Nancy Samec of Lime Springs; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; one brother, Gerald Mailey of Decorah; and one sister, Joann Martinek of Cresco.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Gerald and Roger; his parents; and an infant sister.
