Marjorie H. Youngblood, age 81, of Ossian, IA, died Sunday morning, February 7, 2010 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian by Lay Pastor Roy Christophersen with burial in Freeport Cemetery, rural Decorah, IA.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 10 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Thursday one hour before the service at the church.

Marjorie Helen Youngblood was born January 21, 1929, the daughter of Ivan V. and Illethe O. (Olson) Springmire in New London, WI. She was a 1947 graduate of Decorah High School and attended Luther College where she received a teaching certificate and then through the years continued taking classes to further her education.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Wayne A. Youngblood on August 13, 1950 at the Baptist Church in Cresco, IA, by Rev. Verts. To this union two daughters were born: Marsha and Dena.

Marjorie was a dedicated teacher and had taught at many area schools including: rural schools in Glenwood, Freeport and Pleasant Township areas of Winneshiek County, the West Side Elementary School in Decorah and then the South Winneshiek Community School, teaching first, second and third grades. Following her retirement in 1992 she got her insurance license and worked for the Royal Neighbors of America Insurance Company. She was also a help to her husband, Wayne in their cleaners business in Ossian from 1963 to 1980.

Marjorie was a member of Ossian Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, watching television, and fishing. She became a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian in September of 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Illethe Springmire; her husband, Wayne on April 14, 2003; and an infant sister, Barbara Ann. Marjorie is survived by her two daughters: Marsha (Dean) Nielsen of Hastings, MN and Dena (Don) DiLaura of Ossian, IA; four granddaughters: Sarah (Scott) Gronquist of Hastings, MN, Jessica Nielsen of Hastings, MN, Ana DiLaura of Cedar Falls, IA and Leah DiLaura of Cedar Rapids, IA; and two great granddaughters: Avery and Alison Gronquist.
