Violet "Vi" Williams, age 85, of Wood Dale, Illinois, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at her daughter's home in Wood Dale, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Stephen Jacobsen presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa.
Violet was born on January 8, 1924 in Cresco, Iowa, to Albert and Cora (Wheeler) Melver. At a young age, Violet moved with her family to the Bluffton area and attended country school. Violet married Joseph Kornmeyer and they later divorced. She married Mitt Williams and lived most of their lives around Decorah. Violet worked for Wapsi Produce and as a receptionist at the Decorah Newspaper for about fifteen years. Violet moved six years ago to Wood Dale, Illinois, be near her daughter. Violet was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
Violet is survived by her daughter: Shirley (Ron) Haugen, Wood Dale, IL. Two granddaughters: Michelle and Rochelle; eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchild.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband: Milton Williams in 1960. Her parents: Albert & Cora Melver. One sister: Leona Hoffman, twin sisters in infancy; two brothers: Bert and Andy Melver.
