Maribeth Wickett, age 78, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a long illness.

Maribeth Wickett was born June 7, 1928 in Canton, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Beth (Torgenrude) Wickett. She graduated from Canton High School; studied music in Chicago, Illinois, and later attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Maribeth was an accomplished pianist and vocalist. In earlier years, she appeared in a number of theatrical productions and worked in dinner theater in Minneapolis area. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church. Maribeth loved her dogs and was fond of feeding the birds and growing flowers. She was well informed about current events and enjoyed talking about politics.

Survivors include a son, Scott Schwen and his wife, Janelle Stahlberg-Schwen of San Mateo, CA; two grandchildren, Krista Schwen of San Diego, CA and Jordy Schwen of Coon Rapids, MN; two sisters, Violet Van der Linden of Pella, IA and Gloria Whitney of Decorah; three brothers, Frank (Arlie) Wickett of Anoka, MN, Larimore Wickett (Carlos Gutierrez) of Silver City, New Mexico and Ramon (Lorraine) Wickett of Decorah; and twelve nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements were completed by Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.
