David P. Weis, age 72, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Wellington Place in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 29, 2008 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah by Rev. Phillip Gibbs with burial in St. Benedict Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, December 28, and on Monday after 8:30 A.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

David Paul Weis was born January 16, 1936, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Alvin H. and Pauline L. (Koester) Weis. He was baptized at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Dave attended St. Benedict Catholic School and then graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1954. He served as a class officer and played on the football team where his rough and ready style of play popularized him among his teammates. Dave entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany for three years. He worked at Weis Buick garage with his brothers for several years and was a meticulous worker. He lived with his brother and sister-in-law, Tom & Lorraine, for 20 years and then Wellington Place in Freeport for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin on November 29, 1953 and Pauline on February 1, 1995; and his sister, Sandra Weis on February 5, 2002.

Dave is survived by four brothers: Jim (Caroline) Weis, Tom (Lorraine) Weis, Richard “Tip” (Vernelle) Weis and Joe (Pat) Weis, all of Decorah; four sisters: Shirley “Peach” (Cyril) Murphy of Bemidji, MN, Sister Jeanenne “Tubby” Weis, SMJM of San Francisco, CA, Betty “Liz” (Gabe) Alvarado of Penn Valley, CA, and Jo Ann (Tom) Martindale of Santa Cruz, CA; 27 nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
