Florence Tekippe, age 92, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 1007, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Florence Mary Giesing was born on May 30, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Schrandt) Giesing, on the family farm near Festina, Iowa. Florence attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina. She worked as a nanny in Dubuque, IA; Chicago, IL; and Winona, MN. Florence married Roman Tekippe on June 3, 1940, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa by Father Rubly. Florence and Roman farmed near Festina for many years, retiring and moving into Calmar in 1978. Florence most enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included baking, sewing, quilting, gardening, playing cards and volunteering at the Calmar Senior Citizens Center. Florence was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church while on the farm and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church while living in Calmar. Florence entered the Ossian Senior Hospice in May of 2005.

Florence’s survivors include her seven sons: Earl (Barb) Tekippe, Wentworth, WI; Rudy (Sherry) Tekippe, Pasadena, CA; George (Maureen) Tekippe, Decorah, IA; Lyle (Deb) Tekippe, West Union, IA; Jim (Pam) Tekippe, Tama, IA; Pat (Jaynece) Tekippe, Festina, IA; and Pete (Elaine) Tekippe, Story City, IA. Twenty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. One sister: Laura (Gene) Gnade, Calmar, IA; one brother-in-law: Paul Tekippe, Ossian, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roman on January 22, 1999.
