Kenneth Sweet, age 68, of rural Ryan, IA died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 after being hit by a train near Ryan, IA

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA. by Rev. David Lenth. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home

Memorial Service 12:00 Noon, Sunday, August 22, 2010 Wakema Park, Center Point, Iowa

Kenneth Elmer Sweet was born June 18, 1942, to Elmer and Lois (Love) Sweet at Waukon, IA. Kenny attended Allamakee county schools. He was married to Elaine (Brandt) Sweet and Doris (Engen) Sweet and married Georgia (Howard) Sweet April 6, 1991. Kenny liked to care for his birds, dogs, donkeys and working with horses. Kenny was always willing to help anybody with anything. He also liked to listen to his brothers’ country music and had a good sense of humor. Kenny especially enjoyed his family. He hauled livestock for area farmers with his blue stock truck. He also worked at Carlson’s in Decorah, IA, for many years and for L.L. Pelling in Cedar Rapids, IA, and he really enjoyed these jobs. Everyone recognized Kenny in his blue truck and now it was his black truck.

Kenny’s survivors include his wife: Georgia Sweet, Ryan, IA. His children: Karla (Jared) Kelly, Ossian, IA and Matt Sweet, Cedar Rapids, IA. Grandchildren: Brody, Kylie and Kenzi. Step-children: Dennis (Tina) Quam, Decorah, IA, Terry (Lillian) Quam, Decorah, IA, Christy (Richard) Klimesh, Spillville, IA, Deb (Ron) Drexler, Coggon, IA, Bill Ford, Cedar Rapids, IA, Pat (Charlie) Ratliff, Central City, IA, Jim Ford, Marengo, IA, Carl Duke, Dysart, IA, Linda (Mike) Devries, Independence, IA, and Pam Ford, Cedar Rapids, IA. Step-grandchildren Dean, Cody, Wyomi, Waukima, BJ, Wade, Josh, Casey, CJ, Austin, Shanell, David, Kaley, Andy, Lynsey and Clark. Step-Great-grandchildren: Derek, Alex, Emma, Aaron, Vincent, Tahya, Jayde, Kyler, Kaleb, Aubrey, Addyson, Kylie, Spencer and Ariana. Second father: Lester Engen, Decorah, IA. Brother: Keith “Lil Dale” (Crystal) Sweet, Luana, IA. Sister: Chae (Dave) Juve, Valley Center, CA. Uncle: Dale (Jane) Sweet, Giard, IA.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Lois and a sister: Jean Halverson. Second mother: Helen Engen.
