Ellen M. Stille, age 82, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A Kress with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday June 13 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at First United Methodist Church.
Ellen Muriel (Shultz) Stille was born December 11, 1925 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Hobart and Margaret (Gombos) Shultz. Ellen graduated from Tipton High School with the class of 1943.
She went to work at the Tipton Ice Cream Parlor and then served as the City Clerk of Tipton until her marriage to Henry C. Stille on December 24, 1954 in Galena, Illinois. This union was blessed with five children: Sherri, Linda, Kent, Kimberly and Cindy.
Ellen was a seamstress and loved to sew. She especially enjoyed sewing for others. She sewed for many people as well as two Decorah businesses and the Luther College Music Department. She also taught a Continuing Education sewing class through Area One at Decorah High School. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years.
Ellen loved flowers, gardening, cooking and playing bingo. Her family was very important to her and she babysat for many of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, on December 4, 1995; and one sister, Lucille Marion.
She is survived by her five children: Sherri Heckstein of Decorah, Linda Stille of Eyota, MN, Kent (Denise) Stille of Decorah, Kimberly (Stan May) Stille of Albany, WI, and Cindy Finch of Decorah; her two stepchildren, Michael (Bertha) Stille of Roland, IA and Carolyn Babcock of Hickman, NE; one sister, Olive Edwards of Canton, SD; nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Brian) Hermanson, Kory (Ashley Alcott) Heckstein, Brandon (Michelle) Stille, Stephanie and Taylor Stille, Nathan and Benjamin May, and Brittni and Courtney Stille; and six great-grandchildren: Kreyton, Marissa and Ainsley Hermanson, Tatum Heckstein, and Brady & Ella Stille.
