LuVerne Snell, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa by Rev. Matt Larson. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 A.M. Wednesday at the church.

Hazel LuVerne (Berg) Snell was born December 24, 1926 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Henry C. and Nora K. (Lovstuen) Berg. She attended rural school through 8th grade and graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1945.

She was united in marriage with Virgil D. Snell on June 13, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA. This union was blessed with four children: Jacque, Kathy, Dianne and David.

For 32 years LuVerne was secretary to the Vice President at Decorah State Bank, retiring on March 1, 1989. LuVerne was an active member of Burr Oak Lutheran Church, where she served as the President of Church Women’s group and was a member of the Joan of Arc Club; Polka Club and the exercise and coffee group.

LuVerne and Virgil were very gracious hosts at their home. LuVerne loved to entertain her family and friends, particularly spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, bake cinnamon rolls, sew, and play cards. She especially enjoyed going to the lake with her family and liked to fish.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lloyd Berg; her brothers-in-law: Selmer Peterson and Harold Dehning; and her sister-in-law, Gail Snell.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Snell; her three daughters: Jacque (Marv) Larson of Palo, IA, Kathy (Bernell) Tollefsrud of Mabel, MN and Dianne (Larry) Headington of Decorah, IA; her son, David (Sue) Snell of Canton, MN; her two sisters, Marjorie Dehning of Decorah, IA and Caryl (Dean) Larson of Decorah, IA; nine grandchildren: Bradley (Shandell) Larson of Baldwin City, KS, Kimberley (Justin) Ross of Cedar Rapids, IA, Daniel (Marsha) Tollefsrud of Decorah, IA, Adam (Tonya) Tollefsrud of Decorah, IA, Heather (Heath) Williams of Mabel, MN, Nicole (Jimmie) Tatum of Pensacola, FL, Mark (Amanda) Headington of Mabel, MN and Kirsten Snell and Paul Snell of Canton, MN; eleven great-grandchildren: Caleb & Cameron Larson, Kyan Ross, Tanner, Aidan and Josie Tollefsrud, Emma and Gwen Tollefsrud, Colby and Samantha Williams, Kaid Headington and Timothy Tatum; her sister-in-law, Naomi (Paul) Halweg of Burr Oak, IA; and her two brothers-in-law: Neil (Lenora) Snell of Cedar Falls, IA and Bob Snell of Canton, MN.
