George A. Snell, age 66, of rural Burr Oak, Iowa, died suddenly Tuesday, February 19, 2008 of a heart ailment in rural Waucoma, Iowa, doing what he loved to do, trucking.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 23, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church at Plymouth Rock in rural Cresco, Iowa by Rev. Donald Hawes and Rev. Daniel Knipper. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 A.M. Saturday at the church.

George Allen Snell was born July 11, 1941 the son of Claude and Maurise (Knox) Snell, on the family farm in Burr Oak Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, where he worked and lived for 59 years. George attended the Snell Country School and he graduated from Canton High School, in Canton, Minnesota, with the class of 1959.

He was united in marriage to Patti Thompson on September 12, 1960 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Tammy, Todd and Travis.

After their marriage, George and Patti lived on his family farm until 2000, at which time they moved one mile across the field. George spent most of his time doing what he loved, hauling livestock and milk. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren and his family. His home was always open to family and friends to celebrate the holidays and other special occasions.

He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where he served on the Cemetery Board.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1988, and many other special relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Patti; his mother, Maurise Snell of Harmony, Minnesota; one daughter, Tammy (John) Brink of Burr Oak, IA; two sons: Todd (Paula) Snell of Burr Oak, Iowa, and Travis (Kjersten) Snell of Houston, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Tricia (Jason) Quandahl, Molly-Jo Brink, Emily Brink, Hannah Snell, Austin Snell and Riley Snell; one great-granddaughter, Miaja Quandahl; two sisters: Claudine (Robert) Pederson of Chatfield, Minnesota, and Margaret (Larry) Miller of Canton, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews; and many, many other relatives and friends.
