George A. Rosenbaum, age 88, of Mason City, IA, formerly of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Monday, March 11, 2012, at Mercy Medical Hospital in Mason City.

A Memorial Service will be April 7, 2012 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 2:00 at the Ft. Atkinson Community Center in Ft. Atkinson, IA. Immediately following the service a lunch will be served and there will be fellowship in his honor. All friends, acquaintances and relatives are welcome to attend.

George Andrew Rosenbaum was born on May 26th, 1923, the fourth of nine children of Louis and Mathilda (Huber) Rosenbaum, near Protivin, IA. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina for 8 years. George served in the US Army from 1946-47 and was honorably discharged. He was married to Joyce Benda in 1948. To this union four children were born and they later divorced. George spent most of his life in and near Fort Atkinson. He was a respected mechanic and worked for Paul Kuhn Implement for 45 years. In his later years, George lived near two of his sisters and helped them out with yard work and odd jobs and also helped his nephews with farm work. He moved to Mason City in 2004. George enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River, Volga Lake and at Clear Lake, he also enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren.

George is survived by his two sons: Bob Rosenbaum, Knoxville, TN and George Jr. Rosenbaum, Roswell, New Mexico. One daughter: Sandy Cummins, Mason City, IA. One granddaughter: Jo, Mason City, IA. Two brothers: Fred Rosenbaum, Waucoma, IA; Gilbert (Carmelita) Rosenbaum, New Hampton, IA. Three sisters: Rita Shindelar, West Union, IA; Ruth Hansel, Fort Atkinson, IA; and Dorothy Smith, Cresco, IA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Mathilda Rosenbaum. One daughter: Georgianna (died at birth). Three sisters: Evelyn Gillem, Mary Baker, and Carmella Holtey. six brothers-in-law: Roy Gillem, Ralph (Bud) Hotley, Daniel Shindelar, Don Hansel, Stan Smith, and Michael F. Baker. One sister-in-law: LaVon Rosenbaum.
