Myrtle A. Reisner, age 89, of Calmar, Iowa died on Friday, February 10, 2006, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Harvey Abrahmson officiating. Burial will be in the Calmar City Cemetery, Calmar, Iowa.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning.

Myrtle Adella Margaret Reisner was born on February 29, 1916, on the family farm east of Calmar, Iowa to Alvin S. and Anna M. (Gunderson) Reisner. Myrtle lived there all of her life, until she entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home this past November. After the death of her mother in 1935, she became a full pledged homemaker, taking care of her father, sister and uncle. She loved to bake and cook and to try new recipes, which she had a large collection. She loved to cross-stitch and crochet, besides taking care of her garden and flowers. Myrtle also enjoyed canning and freezing meat and vegetables from her garden. Myrtle was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar and a member of the Ladies Aide. She was an avid worker for her church. In her younger years, she loved to do art work, and graduated from a correspondence course from McPhail Art Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. She once painted a scene on a drum for a local band and did many other drawings.

Myrtle is survived by her sister: Arlyne Kurash, Decorah, IA. A special cousin, Judy Hageman and her husband Hank, and family. One Aunt, Madonna Reisner, Calmar, Iowa and many cousins.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her mother, Anna in 1935; her father, Alvin in 1978; her grandparents: Henry & Martha Reisner and Peter & Margaret Gunderson, besides several uncles, aunts and cousins.
