David W. Rambo, 72, of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at his home following a long illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol Kress with inurnment in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, where there will be a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. Friends may also call on Friday after 10 A.M. at the Church.

David Ward Rambo was born April 24, 1935 in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Dr. Eli F. and Blanche (Mathie) Rambo. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Webster City. David was a 1953 graduate of Webster City High School and received a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts and a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of Iowa.

Dave was united in marriage with Carole Shever on August 28, 1960 in Anthon, IA. This union was blessed with three children: Richard, Philip and Mary.

He worked as a pharmacist for one year in Cedar Rapids before moving to Decorah in 1961. He worked for Rosel Pharmacy which he later purchased in 1968 and operated until his retirement in 2000.

Dave was a very active member in the First United Methodist Church in Decorah and was also very community minded and had been involved in many activities. He was a member of the Great Lights Masonic Lodge #181 for 50 years, Shriners, Decorah Planning and Zoning Committee, Elks Club, Oneota Golf and Country Club, chairman of the Polio Clinic, charter member of the Downtown Betterment Association, and past President of the Decorah Jaycees and Lions Clubs. He also received numerous awards including the Bowl of Hygeia for outstanding community service by a pharmacist, presented by the State of Iowa Pharmacists Association in 1975; the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for outstanding humanitarian service from the Lions Club in 2002; the Decorah Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1969; and the Decorah Jaycees Boss of the Year Award in 1979. Dave was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed fishing, and refinishing furniture, but most important to him was his family, his community, his profession and his patients. He and Carole enjoyed traveling south for many winters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jane Nichols.

Dave is survived by his wife, Carole of Decorah; two sons, Richard Rambo and his wife Cheryl of Elmhurst, Illinois and Philip Rambo and his wife Leticia of Durango, Colorado; one daughter, Mary Rambo and her husband Gregory Hermes of Naples, Florida; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Katie, Jacob, Jaden and Eli; one sister, Ann Straight and her husband Wayne of Newton, Iowa; and by nieces and nephews.
