Florence Elizabeth Patterson age 79 of Decorah, IA, and formerly of Burr Oak, IA died Friday, October 19, 2012, at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27 at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Harmony, MN, with Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Interment will follow at State Line Cemetery, rural Harmony. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Friday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony.

Florence was born June 8, 1933 in Fresno, CA the daughter of George and Isadore (Qualley) Wernet. As a young girl her family moved from California to Winneshiek County where she attended Coldwater and Canton schools. As a young woman she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, was a nanny for the Fishbaugher family in Cresco, and was a waitress/bartender for her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Angie Wernet when they owned and operated the State Line Inn and the Crystal Inn. She married Arland Patterson on October 6, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Harmony. “Flo”, as her friends called her, enjoyed ceramics, feeding and watching birds, playing cards, going to the casino boat and visiting with her family and friends. Florence was best known for her robust laughter and humor. She will be greatly missed by many.

Florence is survived by seven children, Arlene (Brad) Cole of LaPorte, CO, Robert (Sue) Patterson of Mt Hope, WI, Sharon (Mark) Fabry of Egan, MN, Betty (Jeff) Rice of Dubuque, IA, Bill Patterson of Burr Oak, IA, David Patterson of Waukon, IA and Dean (Debbie) Patterson of Cresco; twelve grandchildren, Tiani, Garrett, Ryly, Heather, Hillary, Trever, Jason (and wife Jewell), Jamie, Makayla, Alexis, Jeffery and Zach; three great-grandchildren, Zoey, Bodyn and Kiah; a brother, Floyd Wernet of Caledonia, MN; a sister-in-law, Angie Wernet of Brownsville, MN; a brother-in-law, Ron Ludeking of Decorah, IA. She is further survived by brothers-in-law, Richard (Ora Mae) Patterson of Afton, MN, and Allen (Beverly) Patterson of Spring Grove, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Florence is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arland (February 21, 1984); one granddaughter, Heather Kimber; one brother, Earl Wernet; two sisters Doris (Joe) Whalen and Georgia Ludeking: and a nephew Philip Whalen.
