Anna K. Olson, age 95, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 4, 2006 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, by Rev. Kim W. Smith, with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.

Anna Karen (Aschim) Olson was born January 15, 1911 on the home farm in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Marie (Nelson) Aschim. She was baptized on February 16, 1911 and confirmed on May 17, 1925 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. She attended Country School and graduated from Decorah High School. Following High School, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While working as a clerk in a department store, Anna met her future husband.

She was united in marriage to Hildor Melvin Olson on November 4, 1933 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. To this union, two children were born: Carol and Curt.

Following their marriage the couple made their home in Madison, South Dakota, which was Hildor’s hometown. They returned to Decorah in 1942 and farmed in Frankville Township for many years. Anna worked side by side with Hildor in the fields and on a tractor during their years of farming. They retired from farming in April 1984 and then moved into Decorah.

She was a longtime, active member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, serving on the Ladies Aid, Church Circle and as a member of the Woodside Mission Circle. She fully embraced her belief in God.

Anna enjoyed traveling with family and friends, playing cards and bowling, for which she won several awards. She was an accomplished cook and baker who made many Norwegian specialties in her kitchen including lefsa, krumkakke, sweet soup, rummegrot and rosettes.

She became a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah on August 29, 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Van Vliet of Decorah; four grandchildren, Julie (Chris) Delgado of Moreno Valley, CA, Todd (Kim) Tekippe of Eden Prairie, MN, Laurie (Michael) Newmark of Reno, NV and Greg Olson of Montana; four great grandchildren, Nick Kovarik, Joshua Delgado, Austin Delgado and Kristin Weivoda; three sisters, Palma Zidlicky, Lucille (Lyle) Sacquitne and Agnes Winger, all of Decorah; two brothers, Harold (Ann) Aschim and Karl (Sylvia) Aschim, all of Decorah; a sister-in-law, Irene Aschim of Ridgeway, IA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hildor on December 13, 2000; a son Curt Olson on April 17, 2006; three brothers, Albert, Lester and Henry Aschim and a sister, Thelma Dresselhaus.
