Leonard Nolte, age 89, of St. Lucas, IA died Sunday June 27, 2010 at his home north of St. Lucas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA. Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be at St. Luke’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel in Ft. Atkinson. There will be a rosary at 5:00 and a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. There will also be visitation after 9:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Friday.
Leonard Casper Nolte was born January 6, 1921 on the family farm near St. Lucas to George and Magdeline (Loesch) Nolte. Leonard attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. On September 14, 1943 Leonard married Rita Elsbernd at St. Johns Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson. Leonard and Rita were third generation farmers on the family farm north of St. Lucas. Leonard was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association in Spillville, the Foresters in St. Lucas, St. Luke’s Rosary Society, and a Lifetime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church where Leonard served on the Parish Council. Leonard enjoyed hunting, reading, gardening, old movies, old country music and polkas. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Leonard is survived by his two sons Roger, and Leonard and Kristine of Waucoma. Three daughters: Jane (Stan) Kuhn of Ankeny, Annette (John) Kuennen of Ft. Atkinson, and Arlene (Duaine) Johnson of Canton MN. Fourteen grandchildren: Karen Kuhn, Kristine (Tim Johnson) Kuhn, Steve and Jackie Nolte, Nick Nolte, Mike Nolte, Dee (Ken) Dlhy, Ben (Kelly) Kuennen, Jess (Cheryl) Kuennen, Todd Kuennen, April Quam, Amanda Quam, Sarah (Greg) Stammeyer, Josh Nolte, and Jordan Nolte. Eleven great grandchildren: Milena, Isaiah, Karson, Morgan, Carter, Preston, Bristol, Ava, Brittany, Brady, and Braden.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Rita on November 28, 1995, Daughter-in-law: Dorothy Nolte, three sisters: Elizabeth (Ed) Winter, Theresa (Ed) Bruening, Gonie (Ralph) Knebel. Five brothers: Frank (Theresa) Nolte, Bill (Louise) Nolte, Alois Katherine(Katie) Nolte, Joe Nolte and George Nolte.
