Marjorie A. Mincks, age 75, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 1 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Thursday one hour before the service at the church.

Marjorie Ann (Cronin) Mincks was born July 5, 1935 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Frank P. and Ellen C. (Beck) Cronin. She was one of nine children. Marjorie attended St. Benedict Catholic School through the eighth grade.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Leslie Gilbert Mincks on February 27, 1954 at St. Benedict Catholic Church by Rev. Thomas O’Toole. This union was blessed with one son, Marlan.

Marjorie worked at the Hotel Winneshiek, Luther College Food Service, as a waitress at Frederick’s Café and finally at Deco Products for 25 years. One year after her son Marlan was born, she suffered the loss of her husband to diabetes. At times Marjorie worked three jobs to provide for her family. Through all of her struggles she maintained a great sense of humor and an enthusiastic outlook on life. In later years she cared for her mother, Ellen, keeping her at home as long as was possible.

Marjorie loved anything to do with strawberries, painting ceramic Nisse’s and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and most of all, her grandchildren, Bryan and Trevor Mincks. She loved to bake, celebrate, play cards until all hours of the night and fill her days with laughter. She demanded little and gave of herself continually.

Marjorie became a resident of Wellington Place on August 13, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie on April 22, 1963; her parents, Frank and Ellen; and two sisters, Grace Vikre and Eleanor Cronin.

Marjorie is survived by her only child, Marlan (Terri Blaess) Mincks of Waukon, IA; two grandchildren: Bryan James Mincks and Trevor John Mincks of Decorah; six siblings: Pat Graham of Decorah, Gladys Mincks of Decorah, Robert (Ila) Cronin of Waterloo, IA, Joe (Angene) Cronin of Waterloo, IA, Janice Cronin of Marshalltown, IA and Frank (Sally) Cronin of Omaha, NE; and many nephews and nieces, especially the children of her sister, Gladys Mincks, whom she treated as her own and who supported and cared for her through the years: Ellen (James) Diederich, Mary (Steven) Holkesvik, Allyn (Gloria) Mincks, Sandy (Steven) Reicks, Wendy (Larry) Henry, Terry Tran, Sherry Henry, Brenda (Randy) Henry, Joseph Mincks, and Robert Mincks. I wish to thank especially Wendy Henry and Pam Gipp, who cared for my mother unselfishly through the years.

Three words the sum of Marjorie’s life: Faithful, Giving, Enduring.
