Elisabeth McCauley, age 104, of Council Bluffs, IA, formerly of Decorah, IA, died at home on February 22, 2008, in Council Bluffs, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, IA, by Father Phillip Gibbs. Burial will be in the St. Benedict’s Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, IA.
Elisabeth Coelestin Reimbold was born on October 3, 1903, the daughter of Henry and Therese (Baur) Reimbold in Keokuk, Iowa. Elisabeth graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Keokuk. She married Lester F. McCauley on May 25, 1936, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keokuk. They lived in Decorah, Elkader, IA, Nauvoo, IL, Champaign, IL, and then back to Decorah until 1985. After her husband died, she lived with her daughter, Kathleen, in Dubuque, IA until they moved to Council Bluffs in 1992. Elisabeth was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and The Catholic Daughters of America. She was an avid miniaturist artist and did knitting for the RSVP in Council Bluffs.
Elisabeth’s survivors include her two sons: John McCauley, New York, NY, and Dennis (Delores) McCauley, Oak Park, IL. and two daughters: Maureen McCauley, San Antonio, TX, and Kathleen McCauley, Council Bluffs, IA. There are also seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with another one due in May.
Elisabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Therese (Baur) Reimbold, her husband, Lester F. McCauley on June 11,1985, and one son, Brian McCauley, on August 24, 2003, and one brother and one sister.
