Sylvester L. “Vet” Malli, age 66, of Mechanicsville, IA, and formerly of rural Harmony, MN, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA following a short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation begins on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, one hour before the service.

Sylvester LeRoy “Vet” Malli was born April 2, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Rene and Wilhelmina (Zeien) Malli. Sylvester attended the Webb School in Fremont Township and Harmony High School in Harmony, MN.

Sylvester worked on the family farm with his Dad and family. For a short time he worked in road construction for Quad Cities Paving in Davenport. Sylvester also helped the neighboring farmers with harvesting, etc. He lived on the home place in Fremont Township for many years until early 2008 when he moved to Mechanicsville, IA to be near his sister.

Sylvester was a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock.

He was preceded in death by his father on April 10, 1971 and his mother on May 10, 2000.

Sylvester is survived by his two brothers: Duane Malli of Mechanicsville, IA and Bernard Malli of Oregon, IL; and by three sisters: Kathryn Dwyer of Chana, IL, Margaret (Richard) Dick of Lodi, WI and Susan Zeman of Mechanicsville, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
