Roman Lensing, age 84, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at his home from long illness with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Robert Ament officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Roman Edward Lensing was born on November 28, 1923, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Lensing on the family farm north of Festina, Iowa. Roman attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina and helped on the family farm. Roman married Ruth Esther (Blackford) on November 5, 1947 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, Iowa. Roman worked for Joe Pavlovec in his rock quarries for many years, and then for Paul Nieman, retiring in 1995. Roman enjoyed visiting with everyone; fishing, mowing and above all, he loved his children and grandchildren. Roman was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

Roman’s survivors include his wife: Esther Lensing, Calmar, IA. Two daughters: Colleen Buechler, Festina, IA and Becky (Mark) Yerrington, El Paso, TX. Four sons: Tom (Bonnie) Lensing, Rockford, IL; Ron (Connie) Lensing, Calmar, IA; Tony (Judy) Lensing, Calmar, IA and Carl Lensing, Calmar, IA. Ten grandchildren: Candy Power, Cory (Jamie) Lensing, Ronnie Snyder, Roxanne (Eric) Roy, Robert (Samantha) Coonradt, William (Faith) Coonradt, Russell (Debbie) Yerrington, Jessica Yerrington, Tara (Tory) Jarchow, and Troy (Bobbi) Lensing. Fifteen great grandchildren: Preston & Trevor Lensing, Steven & Joshua Snyder, Roman & Halley Roy, Natasha, Stacia, Ckaiden & Ckeelie Coonradt, Samantha Coonradt, Alexandra & Mark Yerrington, Keagan Jarchow and Brady Lensing. Two brothers: Bruno Lensing, Phoenix, AZ and Stephen (Arlene) Lensing, Calmar, IA. Three sisters: Beatrice (Victor) Timp, Calmar, IA; Mary Mulligan, Humboldt, IA and Verda (Harlan) Mikota, Little Turkey, IA.

Roman was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Lensing. Two sons: William and Henry Lensing in 1971. Twin daughters in infancy: Margie and Marie in 1961. Three brothers: Daniel Lensing, Gordian Lensing and Roche Lensing.
