Mrs. Gunder Jaastad Passes

Last Saturday another of Winneshiek county's beloved mothers, Mrs. Gunder Jaastad, passed away at her home in Canoe township, after a long illness, having been an invalid for a long time. The deceased was born in Hardanger, Norway, and came to this country and to Winneshiek when a young girl. She was married here in Decorah to Gunder Jaastad, and the family home had been in Canoe township ever since. Eight children were born to the union, six of whom with the bereaved husband and father survive. They are John, of Seattle, Wash.; Ben, Canoe Twp.; Annie, living at home; Andrew and George, Canoe and Ammon at home. The deceased was a woman who was always held in the highest esteem by everyone who ever had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was a good wife and mother and her passing brings sorrow to all and the bereaved ones have the sympathy of many in their loss. The funeral services will be held today from the Springwater church where the interment will take place.
