Dorothy M. Johnson, age 75, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at her home following along illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Allen Vik, with burial in Canoe Ridge Cemetery, rural Decorah.
Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.
Dorothy Mae (Coonradt) Johnson was born March 5, 1932 in Mabel, Minnesota, the daughter of Bert and Olive Doris (Nelson) Coonradt. She graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1949 and graduated in 1971 from Area One Vocational School in Calmar as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
She was united in marriage to Emmett Odell Drievold in the fall of 1949 and they were later divorced. She married Clifford A. “Kipp” Johnson on January 25, 1978 in Canton, Minnesota.
Dorothy was employed by Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah as a nurse for twenty-one years, retiring on March 3, 1992.
She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and later in life, joined Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was an avid reader. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting and crafting, including making Christmas ornaments and stained glass. She enjoyed sharing her completed projects with family and friends. She loved her little dog “Tiffany”, a constant companion and friend until she died in 2005 at the age of 15. She enjoyed continuing her friendship with former co-workers from the hospital, especially Sandy Myers.
Dorothy died Monday, October 1, 2007 at her home in Decorah following a long illness at the age of 75 years.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford “Kipp” of Decorah; four children, Audrey (Robert) Pierce of Waukon, IA, David (Mary) Drievold, Cindy (Bill) Bakken and JoAnn Hanson, all of Decorah; one step son, Clifford “Kippy” Johnson of Decorah; eleven grandchildren, Stacy (Brad) Hamm of Waukon, Jason (Bobby Jo) Curtin of Oxford, IA, Joe (Jessica) Curtin of Waukon, Christopher (Summer) Wiedow of Castalia, IA, Jessica Wilson of Decorah, Kayla Wiedow of Decorah, Tim (Crystal) Wiedow of Decorah, Scott Wiedow of Decorah, Keith Bakken of Decorah, Tom (Amy) Thompson of Decorah, Tim (Bonnie) Shay of Cresco, IA; eighteen great grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryan and Nick Hamm, Jacob and Joseph Curtin, Lucas, Dalton and Colton Wiedow, Austin and Hanna Wilson, Landon Wiedow, Rorie and Camielle Wiedow, Josh, Daven and Seth Thompson, Anthony and Elisabeth Shay; three sisters, Alice (Gene) Bequeaith of Davenport, IA, Sharon (Alert) Folkedahl of Decorah, Jerrine (Karl)Jacobsen of Decorah; a brother, Bernie Coonradt of Decorah; and two special friends who were like family, Pat Gjere of Decorah and Sandy Mangrich of Lansing, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Callie Jo Drievold and Cole Hanson on January 24, 1990 and a nephew, Michael Folkedahl on July 11, 1998.
