Here is the updated schedule for the funeral, after the postponement from the flood: Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Friday, June 13, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with the Rev. Rev. Norman L. Bauer officiating. Burial will be in Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, IA with full military honors. Visitation begins on Friday at 8:00 A.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home.

Clifford A. “Kip” Johnson, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at home following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with the Rev. Rev. Norman L. Bauer officiating. Burial will be in Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, IA with full military honors.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday, June 8, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 8:00 A.M. Monday morning.

Clifford Alfred Johnson was born August 2, 1923 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Sanford Henry and Jean Lucille (Marcy) Johnson. Clifford attended Decorah Public Schools. He had to leave school after sixth grade to go to work to help take care of his family.

Clifford entered the U.S. Army February 3, 1943 and served until January 25, 1946. He became a Staff Sergeant in the 82nd Division. During World War II, this division landed in France and fought its way into Germany. This was the only division of the U.S. Army to serve in two theatres (European and Pacific). Clifford and his lifelong best friend, Gail Carmack, entered the U.S. Army together.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Ophelia Nelson on April 3, 1943 in West Grand, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with one son, Clifford Alan. Clifford and Mildred also helped raise their niece, Elizabeth Nelson.

Clifford was self employed for many years as a truck driver. He was the owner/operator of Johnson Rendering Services.

Mildred died on December 18, 1975 at home in Decorah.

On January 25, 1978, Clifford married Dorothy Mae (Coonradt) Drievold in Caledonia, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Mildred on December 18, 1975, and Dorothy on October 1, 2007; one brother, Charles Johnson; his step-father, Dale Dietz; one great-granddaughter, Brittany Johnson; two step-grandchildren: Callie Jo Drievold and Cole Hanson.

He is survived by his son, Clifford A. “Kippy” (Diane) Johnson of Decorah, IA; four step-children: Audrey (Robert) Pierce of Waukon, IA, David (Mary) Drievold, Cindy (Bill) Bakken and JoAnn Hanson, all of Decorah; his sister, Beverly Hanson of Sauk City, WI.; his step-brother, Michael (Rosalind) Dietz of Waterloo, IA; four grandchildren: Christine April Johnson of Decorah, Jennifer Hope Johnson (Marty) Faldet of Calmar, Chad Harrison Johnson of Decorah, and Stephanie Nadine Johnson (Andy Nesset) of Decorah; eleven step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren: Nathan James Maloney, Mackenzie Johnson Faldet, Noah Johnson Faldet all of Calmar, Rjis Alan Johnson Nesset and Alexandra Scott Johnson Nesset both of Decorah; eighteen step-great-grandchildren.
